Launching Event: Corruption Proofing Legislation in Albania

The Institute for Development and Research Alternatives (IDRA) held and event today for the purpose of introducing the public to the "Corruption Proofing of Albanian Legislation" project which is currently underway. The project is supported by the Dutch Embassy in Tirana. In the launching event, IDRA introduced participants with the ongoing efforts to set up an evaluation system for corruption proofing legislation in Albania, as well as setting up a group of experts who will acquire the necessary training in this regard. On April 30th, 2015, IDRA organized a roundtable for the purpose of introducing the findings from the study on "Impunity-Perceptions and experience of Albanian citizens". IDRA's executive director, Mr. Auron Pasha introduced the participants to the findings of the study,as well as answered questions and provided additional explanations on the methodology used for the research. The roundtable was also attended by Mr. Andi Dobrushi, Director of the Open Society Foundation for Albania, and Mrs.Eridana Cano, chief of cabinet of the Minister for Local Government and the National Anti-Corruption Coordinator. The roundtable was attended by representatives of the civil society, academia, students and the media.

The Institute for Development, Research and Alternatives (IDRA) , with the financial support of the Dutch Embassy in Albania, is currently conducting a 1.5 year project aimed at establishing a system for corruption proofing of legislation in Albania.• The corruption proofing system will look into draft laws and secondary legislation and will spot existing or missing features in those normative acts which can contribute to corruption (regardless whether there was an intention or not, in drafting the specific act).
