Corruption in Albania : Perceptions and Experiences

The 5-year project was a complex set of surveys aiming to explore the perceptions, attitudes and experiences of Albanian public towards the corruption phenomenon.  The research also aimed at evaluating Albanian citizens’ trust in institutions, their level of involvement in democratic processes, as well as their perceptions on good governance. Additionally, the study evaluated perceptions of actors involved in the judiciary sector in Albania, on corruption, good governance, as well as their current level of trust in public institutions.

The set of surveys is composed by:

• A general public survey – N=1200, Household survey, national representative, 18+ years old

• A public sector sample – N=600, representatives of 4 strata of public sector (Central Government, Local Government, Education System and Health system).

• A judges survey – a survey of judges targeting about 300 judges of all judicial layers in Albania.

IDRA has published 4 reports so far, thus creating a system for corruption measurement that is being internationally recognized. Findings from the study were included in a publication, while a summary of these findings was also presented to the public and media in a final conference organized by IDRA in cooperation with its partners.
